Summary

Cloudbet is my favorite casino for playing roulette online. The star attraction is actually their popular sportsbook, but their casino is equally well-run.

Their website is fast-loading and clean, their sign-up process is simple, and they have a good selection casino games from multiple games providers.

Cloudbet Sign Up Form

All you need to create an account at Cloudbet is an email address.

I don't want to say it's the perfect casino, but aside from accepting players from more countries it's hard to see what they can do much better. They're relatively small and new, but then that's also why they're so good.

I'm a big fan of bitcoin casinos, but I'm aware that if you've never played at one before it might seem scary at first. But once you do get over the initial learning-curve, playing at online casinos becomes a much more efficient experience.

I'd recommend anyone with gambling experience to try it out.

Company: Good

License:

Curaçao License Logo Curaçao eGaming 1668/JAZ

Cloudbet was launched in November 2013, four years after Bitcoin was created. They were one of the very first bitcoin-only online casinos and sportsbooks, and have been running smoothly since their launch.

They're a quiet and unassuming company, which works in their favor when it comes to running an online casino for bitcoiners.

For the first five years they operated without a license, which is typical for bitcoin casinos (cryptocurrency simplifies transaction handling and allows you to operate more freely). However, in late 2018 they acquired a Curaçao license in a push to establish themselves as a trustworthy operation.

Consequently they restricted access to the site from some of the more regulated countries like the United States and United Kingdom, which is a shame. So whereas in the past they were more accommodating and liberal, they're now reducing their risk and limiting their global exposure.

I miss the old days of accepting players from everywhere, but I understand their decisions.

Cloudbet proven themselves to be a reliable company over the years, and they continue to travel in a steady direction. There's not much in the way of personality coming from them, but they offer a good casino and pay out quickly, and that's all that really matters in the world of online casinos.

Some players use a VPN to be able to play at Cloudbet, but it's not something they approve of.

Website: Excellent

Cloudbet has the best design of any casino website I have used. It's clean, fast-loading, and keeps out of your way when you're browsing through the games on offer. It's a prime example of good modern website design.

The color scheme is easy on the eye, and the games are organized in to logical sections using a Netflix-style side-scrolling layout. In fact, you can actually switch between "dark" and "light" color schemes, which is a feature that is typically found only on tech websites. I prefer the default dark scheme, but nonetheless it's a testament to the effort they have put in to building this website.

Cloudbet Website Design

The ability to switch color schemes is a sign of skilled website design.

The website loads fast, so it's much more enjoyable to use than the old-school casino websites that have only gotten heavier and heavier over the years.

In summary, the website is an example of the kind of quality you can get when dealing with modern online casinos like Cloudbet. You'll notice the difference when you return to older online casinos after using the Cloudbet website.

Cookies. Clear your cache/cookies if you ever change your password and have trouble logging in. They seem to make an overzealous use of cookies that can sometimes cause problems.

Visit Website

Mobile: Excellent

Cloudbet do not offer a downloadable app, so you have to use your mobile browser to visit Cloudbet instead. But thankfully the responsive design works well, and it works just as well as a native app would.

If anything the mobile website works so well it saves you having to download any unnecessary apps.

Cloudbet Website Mobile Design

An excellent mobile design.

Add to home screen. You can usually "add to home screen" on any website from within the mobile browser, and it will add a handy icon to your device's home screen for quicker access.

The simple and clean layout works well on mobile, making both the casino and sportsbook easy to navigate. It's a pleasure to use, and in all honesty a downloadable app would be superfluous when a responsive design works as well as this.

Most downloadable casino apps are just the standard website version wrapped up in an "app" anyway, so I'm not going to take any points away from Cloudbet for not having a fully-fledged iOS or Android app.

So in short, Cloudbet works wonderfully on mobile devices. It's one of the benefits of playing at a newer online casino.

Games: Good

Roulette Variants:

AmericanEuropeanFrench

Providers:

Play Roulette

There's a healthy selection of roulette games at Cloudbet. It's got all the classic variations (European, American, French) along with some of the more unusual and modern variants (e.g. Three Wheel Roulette).

Also, if you check out the Arcade section you'll find a rare version of Mini Roulette with a wheel that only has 12 numbers on it. The house edge is 6%, which is worse than even American roulette, but it's cool to see this game again after it seemingly disappearing off the face of the Internet for a few years.

Their Live Casino section is pretty pumping too. No shortage of roulette tables their either.

Even though Cloudbet has a good selection of roulette variants, not all of them may be available in your country. Sometimes they display the games as being playable, even if they're not. I'd recommend trying to load them beforehand to see if they work.

The only issue I sometimes have with the roulette games at Cloudbet is they are denominated in mBTC (one thousandth of a bitcoin). This can have two problems:

  1. You need to get used to exchange rates to know how much you're betting with.
  2. The minimum table limits can become restrictively high if the bitcoin price has had a recent major increase.

It's not a big problem, but the exchange rate is something that you need to be aware of if you're betting with bitcoin for the first time. The best thing you can do is keep a currency converter handy (I like Preev.com) and write down the exchange rates for common quantities of BTC so you familiarize yourself with them.

Unit Value (BTC) Note
BTC 1.00000000
mBTC 0.001 one-thousandth of a bitcoin
uBTC 0.000001 one-millionth of a bitcoin (sometimes referred to as a "bit")
satoshi 0.00000001 one-hundred-millionth of a bitcoin (the smallest possible unit)

Banking: Excellent

Payment Methods:

Don't deposit more than you're intending to gamble with. You need to play through 100% of your deposit before you can make a withdrawal from Cloudbet.

Cloudbet only accepts cryptocurrency for deposits and withdrawals, so you'll need to get some bitcoin to be able to gamble here. But on the plus side it means that deposits and withdrawals are usually instant.

Which is amazing.

It might seem like an extra step to buy bitcoin at first, but it's worth the effort. Using cryptocurrency for getting money in to (and out of) your account is much faster than traditional payment methods. Deposits are instant, and whilst they say that withdrawals can take up to 24 hours, from my experience they are usually instant too.

Cloudbet cashier showing cryptocurrency balances

The cashier is entirely in cryptocurrency.

The fact that Cloudbet is a cryptocurrency-only casino is the reason why they're more efficient than other casinos; they're not weighed down under the paperwork involved with accepting credit cards and bank transfers, so they can use their energy to focus on building a great website and providing helpful support.

It might seem more convenient to have other deposit options available, but the fact that they only use cryptocurrency is what makes them so good.

Deposit Time. Deposits will only show up in your Cloudbet balance once your transaction has been mined in to the blockchain (i.e. "confirmed"). So don't fret if your balance doesn't update immediately after making the transaction... just keep your eye on it in a blockchain explorer and wait for it to get confirmed.

Currencies accepted:

Here's a summary of the cryptocurrencies Cloudbet accepts:

Symbol Coin Released Note
BTC Bitcoin 2009 The original cryptocurrency released in 2009.
BCH Bitcoin Cash 2017 A fork of Bitcoin. Allows for more transactions, but risks centralization due to larger blocks. I do not recommend it.
ETH Ethereum 2009 An advanced cryptocurrency that allows for more complex and programmable transactions. Comes at the price of a much larger blockchain.
LINK Chainlink 2017 Can't tell you much about it.
USDT Tether 2014 USD Stablecoin. Largest stablecoin. Issued by the Bitfinex exchange.
USDC USD Coin 2017 USD Stablecoin. The second largest stablecoin. Official stablecoin of Coinbase.
PAX Paxos 2018 USD Stablecoin.
DAI MakerDao 2017 USD Stablecoin.
PAXG Paxos Gold 2019 Gold Stablecoin. Each token is backed by one fine troy ounce (t oz) of a 400 oz London Good Delivery gold bar.

I would stick to using Bitcoin if you're new. There are many other cryptocurrencies out there, but Bitcoin is the original and most stable.

Bonus: Good

100% up to
5 BTC

Bonus Release. You can withdraw any bonus money as soon as it's added to your main balance.

Cloudbet offers a unique type of bonus in the world of online casino bonuses. Instead of having a fixed requirement where you wager the bonus amount a fixed multiple of times, you redeem the bonus by earning loyalty points from every bet you make.

So it's different than normal bonuses, but also better.

For example, if you make a deposit of 0.02 BTC, you will get a bonus of an additional 0.02 BTC. You can then redeem every 0.01 BTC of bonus for every 800 loyalty points you earn (so we will need to earn 1600 loyalty points in total).

Loyalty points

Loyalty points are calculated as follows:

Loyalty Points = Converted Stake x 0.008 x (100-RTP)

Converted Stake = Amount Wagered in BTC * 1000
RTP             = 100 - House Edge

RTP stands for Return To Player, and it's basically the inverse of the house edge. So (100-RTP) is actually just the house edge for the game.

Converted Stake is value of the amount wagered in BTC converted to mBTC.

Example

So for example, European Roulette has a house edge of 2.70%. So for every 1 mBTC bet you make, you will earn the following number of loyalty points:

Loyalty Points = 1 x 0.008 x (2.70) = 0.0216

So to redeem our 0.2 BTC bonus we will need to earn 1600 loyalty points. If we are making 1 mBTC bets on European Roulette, we will need to wager a total of 1600 / 0.0216 = 74074.07 mBTC, or 74.07407 BTC.

Effectively this means you need to wager 370x the bonus amount to redeem the full bonus if playing European roulette.

The good thing about this bonus is that all casino games contribute to the wagering requirements fairly. Most other online casinos unfairly discount the contribution of table games like roulette, and only reward you for playing addictive slot games.

House edge

Here's the house edge and corresponding loyalty points earned at the more popular casino games for every 1 mBTC you wager:

House Edge Loyalty Points Wagering Requirements
European Blackjack 0.61% 0.0049 1639x
French Roulette 1.35% 0.0108 740x
European Roulette 2.70% 0.0216 370x
American Roulette 5.26% 0.0420 190x

The lower the house edge for the game, the more you need to wager to redeem the full bonus.

Support: Good

I've always liked the support at Cloudbet. The main method for contacting support is through their Live Chat, and from my experience you'll be speaking to a real human being in less than a minute.

The support I've received has always gone slightly above what I was expecting, and the staff have been clear and friendly. If you ever have a question that they cannot answer there and then, they'll look in to it and get back to you by email, which is usually the same day.

Cloudbet are still relatively small compared to the major online casinos, and so they have much more time for helping their players. It's usually the case that the smaller the casino, the more personal the support.

The support at Cloudbet is reassuringly good. I kinda hope they stay small forever so it can continue to be as good as it is now.

Conclusion: A

Cloudbet is the flagship casino for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. They've been around since 2013, and they're currently the biggest and most reliable bitcoin casino we've got.

Overall, Cloudbet is small and solid. Their support is good, their website is as fast as their withdrawals, and they're an insight in to the future of how modern online casinos will run.

As I say, bitcoin might not be your thing, and in that case you'll want to stick to the more old-school online casinos with traditional payment options.

But if you're already a bitcoin user, or looking to get your feet wet using cryptocurrency, Cloudbet is the best bitcoin casino you're going to find.
